Recover-You

If Your Recovery Is Working — Protect It

What follows challenges some of the most widely accepted frameworks in addiction recovery. While intentional, it's not meant for everyone.

If you are in a stable recovery, if what you are doing is holding, if the ground beneath you feels solid, do not let this website disturb that. Stability in recovery is hard-won. I have no interest in unsettling it.

These pages are written for the people still searching. The ones who have tried, genuinely tried, and watched it collapse anyway. The ones who have been told the problem is their commitment, their honesty, their character and who are starting to suspect the problem is something else entirely. That suspicion is what this is for.

Some of This Will Be Hard to Read

These pages go into trauma, addiction, and the damage both leave behind. I have kept graphic detail out of it but I have not softened the truth of it, because softening it would defeat the purpose.

If something connects too hard, stop. Ground yourself. Come back later. There is no urgency here. This will still be here when you're ready and so will you.

Recover You
What is Recover-You?

Recover-You isn't about going back. For most of us, there's no "before" worth returning to. That version was already fractured, already performing, already surviving on borrowed time. The self addiction consumed wasn't whole to begin with. It was already a patch job.

This is about what was stolen and what was always underneath. The version of you that never got a fair shot. What you'll find here isn't comfort food for the wounded. No soft landings. No borrowed wisdom dressed up as insight.

Grounded in neuroscience, trauma research, and hard-earned experience, this is a survivor's blueprint built on evidence, not optimism. No clichés, no slogans, no language engineered to make you feel better without helping you get better.

Recover-You is for people in recovery, people who don't know they're in it yet and the ones who love them and can't figure out why nothing's working.

Why This Site Exists
Before You Dive In

How Recover-You Helps

Built for people who are done being handed answers that don't fit the question.

  • Understand how trauma shapes the brain, body, and behaviour — and why so many patterns make sense once you see their origin.
  • See how trauma and addiction reinforce each other, and why abstinence alone rarely holds without addressing the root.
  • Identify the beliefs, life traps, and survival patterns still quietly running your choices.
  • Learn practical tools to regulate the nervous system when old patterns activate — not just name what's happening.
  • Rebuild a sense of identity and direction grounded in who you are, not who you had to become to survive.
  • Find Alberta-based resources and real pathways into trauma-specific care — with programs broken down and application links where available.
Start With a Mirror

What Is Complex PTSD?

If you grew up surviving instead of living, read this page first. It explains the six domains of C-PTSD without the clinical fog, then hands you a private self-reflection that turns them into a map of where you actually stand. And where to start.

Free  ·  Private  ·  Nothing saved or tracked  ·  Not a test. A mirror.

// The Absence of Contrast

You don't seek out chaos. You return to it.
It's the only quiet you've ever known.

Nobody heals from a wound they can't see. And when survival looked like shrinking, numbing, raging — you called it a personality flaw.
It wasn't. It was architecture. Built fast, under fire, to keep you alive.

Now we build something else.

Working in recovery and can't go there with a client?
Your client is ready to understand why. This site explains the mechanics — trauma, the nervous system, why abstinence alone rarely holds — so you don't have to.

// My Mission:
Education, Not Coercion

You cannot force someone to heal. Not with urgency. Not with love. Not with the best intentions in the world.
Push someone into their past before they're ready, and they won't come out stronger. They'll come out defended.

Recovery starts with willingness, not pressure. My job is not to drag you into your history.
It's to make sure that when you choose to face it, you're not walking in blind.

For years, ignorance was my armor. Indifference was the lining. They kept me safe, until they started killing me.

What finally broke through was not confrontation. It was understanding.
Learning how trauma rewires the brain and body made denial harder to maintain. Once you see the mechanics, once you recognize the pattern running through your own life, you cannot unsee it.

Avoidance doesn't survive that kind of light.

Education doesn't force the door open.
It just makes denial harder to defend.
